History
It is one of the Dai-Roku Tenjinsha shrines that enshrined the Sixth Heaven Demon King during the period of Shinbutsu-shugo (syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism). It was founded in 1782 CE (Tenmei 2). Although it existed as a small shrine prior to that, it gathered faith from local residents, including the Oda clan who were the feudal lords, during the Sengoku period. Under the modern shrine ranking system of the Meiji era, it was initially a Mukasheisha (unranked shrine), but became a Musha (village shrine) in 1907 when four other shrines, including Katori Shrine, were merged into it.
