The shrine is said to have been founded in 601 CE (Suiko 9). In 933 CE, Taira no Masakado constructed the shrine buildings. In 940 CE, Fujiwara no Hidehigo repaired the structures to pacify the spirit of Taira no Masakado. In 1536 CE, the Mita clan repaired the shrine buildings again.
