Founded in 1574 CE (Tenshō 2) by Kumorimoto Nagamasa, this Sōtō Zen temple was established by Hira Yanaginaru, a retainer of the Iwatsuka Ōta clan and the local lord. It is said that Hira Yanaginaru's grave once stood within the temple grounds, though only his memorial tablet remains today.
