During the era of its reviver, the priest Eikan, the temple transformed into a Pure Land temple and became the head temple of the Sennyu Zenrinji branch. Although it suffered damage during the Onin War, reconstruction efforts were carried out from around 1472 CE (Bunmei 4) to around 1497 CE (Meio 6).
