In 788 CE (Enryaku 7), the area's name was changed from Furei to Kawabori after Waki Yasumaro prayed for the safety of civil engineering projects. In the early Edo period, a worship hall in the Gongen-zukuri style was donated by Katagiri Katamoto. In 1907 CE (Meiji 40), Inari Shrine from Shimizudani was merged into this shrine, resulting in its current name.
