After being displaced by a flood in 1595 CE (Bunroku 4), it was re-established at its current location in 1616 CE (Gen'ō 2) and renamed Hōdenji in 1677 CE (Enpō 5). The temple suffered damage in the 1891 CE (Meiji 24) Nōbi earthquake but was rebuilt in 1898 CE (Meiji 31).
