Originally a Shingon sect temple called Shozanbo, it converted to the Nichiren sect in 1534 CE (Tenbun 3) when Nisui Nichijun, the 9th abbot of Ikegami Honmonji, visited and reformed it, renaming it Hoshozan Enyuji. The entire temple complex was destroyed in the Great Kawasaki Air Raid of 1945 CE (Showa 20). It was rebuilt through donations, and after the completion ceremony for the new main hall in 2011 CE (Heisei 23), it attained its current appearance.
