History
Founded in the 15th century by the monk Nyoyu Jio at the invitation of Ishisaka Yojuro. The temple later relocated to Zao and again due to the construction of Nagaoka Castle, before moving to its current location. It was destroyed by fire during the Boshin War but was rebuilt in 1883 (Meiji 16).
