History
The temple originated in 1280 CE (Kōan 3) when Fūzai Ono Ryōnyū Dōshū, the local land steward of Fūzai, converted to Nichiren Buddhism and built a private Buddhist hall within his residence. In 1518 CE (Eiō 15), Nichigata relocated and re-established the temple at its current location. The buildings constructed during this relocation are traditionally attributed to the patronage of Hōjō Ietsumune.
