History
During the Bunmei period (1469-1487), Aki Motochika, the lord of Aki Castle, moved a temple that bore his name to this site. He named the mountain after himself and adopted the dharma name 'Jojō' as the temple's name, establishing it as the family temple of the Aki clan. In 1569 (Eiroku 12), Aki no Kuni no Tora is said to have committed suicide at this temple after being defeated in battle by the Chōsokabe clan.
