History

The shrine's origins date back to when Emperor Ojin prayed for a sacred stone while stopping during Empress Jingu's expedition to the Three Kingdoms of Korea. Later, that sacred stone was enshrined, and a shrine was established. The shrine buildings were constructed with the assistance of Kawano Michimasa during the Tenwa era (1681–1684 CE) and rebuilt in the first year of the Kaiei era (1848 CE). The structures were destroyed in the Great Air Raid on Kobe in the 20th year of the Showa era (1945 CE) and subsequently rebuilt between the 32nd and 37th years of the Showa era (1957–1962 CE).
