History
Founded in 1282 CE (Kōan 5) by the Venerable Kōun, it received a shrine-temple land certificate (Goshuin) from Tokugawa Ieyasu. Although the certificate was lost in a fire in 1631 CE (Kan'ei 18), a new one was granted in 1685 CE (Jōkyō 2). During the Meiji Restoration, the temple was relocated from Ōmiya Hikawa Shrine, where it had served as the Betto (temple in charge) Kannon temple, and its main deity was designated as a side deity.
