History
The founding date is unknown, but it is recorded as 'Takeke no Sha' in the Genpei Seikai Ki from the late Heian period. After being destroyed during the Onin War, it was relocated to its current site in conjunction with Toyotomi Hideyoshi's construction of the Daibutsuden at Hojo-ji Temple. It was renamed Takio Shrine by order of the Edo Shogunate. The main hall (honden) was moved from the former inner sanctuary of Kifune Shrine, and eight buildings, including the worship hall (haiden), are designated as Tangible Cultural Properties by Kyoto City.

What visitors say
Located within walking distance of Tofuku-ji Station, it is known as a power spot for career success and business prosperity. The main attraction is the massive 8-meter-long wooden dragon carved into the ceiling of the worship hall (haiden); entry into the hall is sometimes permitted during limited periods. There are other sights within the precincts, and many visitors come during the autumn foliage season.
