History
It is said to have existed as Shomei-in prior to 1740 CE (Bunmei 5). The temple was closed following the Meiji Restoration. In 1966 CE (Shōwa 41), it was preserved as part of the Nakatoge-shita Community Center. The Fudo Myo-o statue within the grounds is traditionally said to have been crafted by Kūkai (Kōbō Daishi) while aboard a ship returning from China as part of the Japanese mission to Tang. It is said to have served as a guardian deity for Taira no Takamochi before being enshrined at its current location.
