Shoren-ji

高山市鉄砲町6

4.0(1198)

A large Buddhist temple with a history of 500 years. A grand gate and a wooden main hall still stand today.

What visitors say

Located in the Takayama city center, this vast and magnificent temple also serves as a parking lot for tour buses. The main hall, situated behind the karamon (ornamental gate), features a splendid and luxurious inner sanctuary, while the Treasure Hall offers opportunities to learn about history. Unusually for a Jodo Shinshu temple, it offers Goshuin (a temple's calligraphic seal stamp). The surrounding area is conveniently located for accessing tourist attractions.
