History
The exact date of founding is unknown, but shrine records state that a small shrine was built in 927 CE (Enchō 5) using a loquat tree as the ridgepole. Some theories suggest it may be the "Shiragami Shrine" listed in the Engishiki (a 10th-century codex). During the Edo period, it was enshrined as the guardian deity of Higashimura village. In 1909 CE (Meiji 42), five local shrines were merged into this one, and in 1924 CE (Taishō 13), it was designated as a Kōya (a shrine of regional importance).
