History
In ancient times, the deities descended upon the Gotobiki Rock of Mount Kamikura. In the 58th year of Emperor Keikō's reign, the shrine was relocated to its current site. During the Heian period, twelve shrine buildings were constructed, and it was listed as a major shrine in the Engishiki (a 10th-century codex). In the Meiji era, the shrine buildings were completely destroyed by fire but were subsequently rebuilt. Today, it is designated as a shrine on the separate list of the Association of Shinto Shrines.
