The shrine was founded during the Shinko-Kanun era when the ascetic Kado was moved by the Koshin deity and built a small shrine in a rock cave on the mountain. In 1946 CE (Shōwa 21), the shrine buildings were destroyed by fire, so religious ceremonies and shrine affairs are currently conducted at the remote worship hall (Hōhaiden) in the village below.
