History
In 807 CE (Dōtō 2), during a visit by Kūkai, the then provincial governor, Wachi Sukune Motoshige, enshrined the Great Compassionate Mahāvairocana (Dainichi Nyorai) for the salvation of all people and named the temple Riseiin Yūki-ji. The current mountain gate and main hall were rebuilt in the early Edo period by Kato Yoshitomo, the lord of the Matsudō domain.
