Founded in 1875 (Meiji 8) by the first colonial soldiers of the Hokkaido Development Commission under the name Takehayashi Shrine. The site was relocated in 1897 (Meiji 30), and the shrine was moved to its current location in 1915 (Taisho 4), when it was designated as a local shrine. In 1967 (Showa 42), it received special permission from Ise Jingu to accept a special divine mirror and enshrine additional deities from both inner and outer shrines.
