History
The shrine's origins are said to trace back to Emperor Tenji, who built Kurosaki no Miya in Kuroda-go to pray for a bountiful harvest of the five grains and the happiness of the people. After the Kuroda-go area was submerged by the sea following the earthquake of 684 CE (Hakuhō 13) during the reign of Emperor Tenmu, the deity was enshrined as Konpira Dai-Gongen on the sacred rice fields (shinden) in Hamakaita. The shrine moved to its current location in 1641 CE (Kan'ei 18).
