A Soto Zen Buddhist temple located in Sumita Town, Iwate Prefecture, with the mountain name Zuikensan. It is also the 14th station of the Kesen 33 Kannon Pilgrimage.
History
It served as the ancestral temple for the Setabei Castle and the Asanuma clan. During the Kan'ei era, it was designated as a village temple following the ban on Christianity. In 1814, a fire destroyed everything except the five-story pagoda (rumon). In 1867, local carpenters pooled their efforts to reconstruct the pagoda. In the early Meiji and early Showa periods, it merged with the abandoned temples Shurenji and Shinjo-in, respectively.
