Founded in 1474 CE (Bunmei 6) of the Muromachi period, with Komata Koun as the founding patriarch and Taka-gaku Shunshun as the founding abbot. Taka-gaku passed away in 1492 CE (Entoku 4) and is buried at this temple. During the Sengoku period, it became a branch temple of Jōsei-ji, and during the Edo period, it held multiple branch temples.
