The founding date is unknown. After the shrine's location shifted over time, it was relocated to its current site. In 1907 CE (Meiji 40), it was merged with Hikawa Shrine and others due to the Shrine Consolidation Order. In 1942 CE (Shōwa 17), it was re-established as the local guardian shrine by receiving a branch enshrinement of the deity from Tenzen Shrine. In 1956 CE (Shōwa 31), the enshrined deities were returned from Hikawa Shrine, and the shrine has continued in its current form since then.
