Later, following a posthumous edict from Emperor Chutoku, a mausoleum was constructed on the grounds. The site has a long history of mourning the emperor, marked by visits from the monk Saigyo and the construction of the Hokke-do (Lotus Sutra Hall) by Emperor Go-Toba. During the Meiji era, the temple faced the confiscation of its lands and litigation over ownership. Today, it continues to operate as a temple of the Shingon Mishima-ha sect.
