Initially, due to the syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism, it was known as 'Fudo Shrine.' In 1872 (Meiji 5), it was renamed Hakubaku Shrine and designated as a Goryo (a shrine of high rank). In 1910 (Meiji 43), 30 shrines from the former Yatte Town were consolidated into this shrine.
