盛岡市街の高台に位置し、境内から街を見渡すことができます。参道は石畳や砂が敷かれており、歩き心地が良いのが特徴です。境内には石川啄木の歌碑や可愛い狛犬など多くの見どころがあり、静かな雰囲気が漂います。専用駐車場はありますが、道が狭いため注意が必要です。
