According to tradition, the shrine originated in the 2nd year of Emperor Jimmu's reign. It is said that Kamashimane-no-Mikoto was enshrined during the reign of Emperor Suinin. Although the shrine buildings were destroyed by fire at the end of the Muromachi period, they were subsequently restored. During the Meiji era, Yamato-Takeru-no-Mikoto was co-enshrined in the current main hall. After World War II, the Shinto Ishikiri sect was established, and this shrine serves as its head headquarters.
