During the medieval period, the temple is said to have prospered with the support of the local powerful Maru clan. The entire mountain complex was destroyed by a fire in 1487 CE (Chōkyō 1) and was rebuilt in its current form in 1525 CE (Ōei 5). Repairs conducted in 1970-1971 CE (Shōwa 45-46) revealed that the construction of the biombos (chūshi) dates to 1513 CE (Eiō 10).
