Founded during the Tenman era of the Edo period by settlers from Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture, who moved to Kanegasaku. They invited the monk Shokan Soko Daiko from their ancestral temple, Yojuin, to establish the temple. Before the establishment of the modern school system, it also functioned as a Terakoya (temple school) open to the local community. In 1877 (Meiji 10), Kanegasaku Elementary School, the predecessor of Takagi Elementary School, was established within the temple grounds.
