After the Upper Shrine was destroyed by fire in 1760 CE, both shrines were relocated and merged at their current site in 1765 CE, becoming known as 'Hoshimiya Sansha' (Three Shrines of Hoshimiya). In 1873 CE, the shrine was renamed 'Soboi Shrine' after the local place name.
