History

According to shrine tradition, followers of Emperor Yamato Takeru who accompanied him on his eastern campaign remained in this region and established the shrine. In 1716 CE (Kyōhō 1), wealthy residents of Odate Town built the shrine at the former site in Maegō Village, Daimyōin-zuka, and designated it as the tutelary deity of the outer town. In 1880 CE (Meiji 13), the shrine was relocated to its current site in Shinmei-machi.
