In 1574 CE (Tensho 2), the shrine was relocated from an ancient shrine named Natsu Shinmei Daijingu (Natsu Shinmei Grand Shrine), located approximately one kilometer south of the current site, and new shrine buildings were constructed. Invited as the Ujigami (local tutelary deity) of the villagers, the shrine is situated on a hill called Marudo-yama (Marudo Hill) in the northeast of the settlement, and is also known locally as Marudo Shrine.
