Zenrin-ji (Eikan-do)

京都市左京区永観堂町48

4.6(9436)

A famous Buddhist temple known for housing ancient artworks. It is particularly renowned for the 'Mikaeri Amida' (the Amida Buddha looking back over its shoulder).

What visitors say

Renowned as a premier spot for autumn foliage, the garden features approximately 3,000 momiji (Japanese maple) trees that turn vibrant colors. The scenery of the leaves reflected on the water's surface is exceptionally beautiful. The nighttime illumination is characterized by a fantastical contrast of light and shadow, attracting many visitors both day and night. The autumn season is extremely crowded, often resulting in long queues, but visitors can enjoy the experience by including a stroll through the surrounding areas.
