Fukusenji
横浜市緑区長津田町3113
A temple of the Koyasan Shingon school and the 65th site of the Kanto 88 Pilgrimage. It enshrines Yakushi Nyorai (the Medicine Buddha) as its principal image, which is opened for public viewing every year of the Tiger in the zodiac cycle.
History
Founded in 1492 by the monk Son'yu, it was later established as a Besshoji (subordinate temple) of Oji Gongen by the local head Okano Fusatsune. During the Edo period, it flourished after receiving a Shuinjo (an imperial or daimyo letter of endorsement) from Tokugawa Iemitsu. However, it declined after the Meiji Restoration, eventually burning down completely and entering a period without a resident priest. It was revived in the 1930s, and the current main hall was rebuilt in 1970.

What visitors say
Located on a small elevated plateau, the temple grounds are compact yet offer many highlights. Visitors can enjoy diverse worship spots, including the Kaidan Meguri (a ritual walk through a darkened hall down the main hall stairs), a Medicine Buddha statue you can shake hands with, the Buke Fushi Kannon (Goddess of Mercy for preventing foolishness), and Buddha footprints. At the temple office, you can receive tea and sweets while applying for a Goshuin (a temple's calligraphic seal stamp).
