The founding date is unknown, but it is said to have begun when villagers, worried about crop failures caused by water damage, enshrined the water deity during the Sho-ō era (1652–1655) of Emperor Kōmyō. It was designated a village shrine in 1873 (Meiji 6), and Inari Shrine was merged into it in 1909 (Meiji 42). Damage from the 1995 (Heisei 7) Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake has been almost fully repaired.
