Inari Shrine

Ukanomitama-no-Okami (Inari)

The exact date of founding is unknown, but it is presumed to have been established after people began to settle in the area, based on the inscription on the Koshin-tou (Koshin Tower) within the precincts and the existence of a spring pool that once stood nearby. It was formerly called Sugakuri Shrine, and the sacred forest was referred to as Inari Mori due to its dense, lush vegetation. During the shrine merger policy at the end of the Meiji era, the shrine faced the threat of abolition but was preserved due to opposition movements by the parishioners (Uji ko).
