History
The shrine's origins date back to 987 CE, when Abe no Seimei enshrined Shinto Meishin. Subsequently, Abe no Seimei's grandson rebuilt the shrine buildings. In 1740, the shrine buildings were constructed by Itakura Katsuri, the lord of the Fukushima Domain. It was elevated to the status of a Kensha (prefectural shrine) in 1895. The current shrine buildings were completed in 1938, designed by Oe Shinjirō.
