The shrine's origins are said to date to 1697 CE (Genroku 10), when a rōnin named Sōma Satanaka met a beautiful woman who claimed to be an attendant of Fushimi Fujimori Nagamori Myōjin. He conveyed her spiritual efficacy to Nakahara Yobei, who carved the sacred image. In 1740 CE (Bunmei 5), the chief priest of the Saeki family, Nichigen, transferred the enshrined deity to the current location, and Anritsu-ji Temple became the Bessō (affiliated temple).
