History
The shrine's origins date back to around 1744 CE (Enkyo 1), when villagers of Kozato Village enshrined Inari Oho-mikoto (the Great Deity of Inari) to pray for village safety and abundant harvests. In 1804 CE (Bunka 1), the shrine received a Goshuin (a shrine's calligraphic seal stamp) from Fushimi Inari Taisha (Fushimi Inari Grand Shrine) and constructed its current main hall (honden) on the present site. Due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the early Meiji period, the shrine was relocated to the grounds of Hachiman Shrine. In 1897 CE (Meiji 30), the current buildings were constructed, and the shrine returned to its original location.
