History
During the reign of Emperor Chūai, the ancestor of the Take clan enshrined Amaterasu Ōkami (the Great Sun Goddess) and accompanied Yamatohime-no-Mikoto (Princess Yamatohime) on her journey to Ise, settling in this area and residing in Saigū. The shrine was originally established by descendants of the Take clan to worship their ancestral deity. Later, Nagahaku-no-Kami, the ancestor of the Asahi clan, became the main enshrined deity. In 1911 (Meiji 44), 23 shrines from the former Saigū village were consolidated and relocated to the current site.
