天慶年間、淳和天皇の勅願により浦島院観福寺の僧侶が稲荷山の山腹に社殿を建立し、伏見稲荷大社の御分霊を勧請したのが創祀と伝えられる。元寇の際には北条時宗が神鈴等を奉納し、戦国時代に罹災したのち永禄2年に再興された。元禄2年に山麓へ遷座した際、通行人の笠が落ちたことから「笠脱稲荷大明神」と称され、後に「笠䅣稲荷大明神」と改称された。
