History

The shrine's founding is attributed to the Saita clan, who migrated from the Mutsu Province during the Jiryaku era of the late Heian period and enshrined a branch spirit of their ancestral tutelary deity. It was originally established in Hashimoto Village in the 14th year of the Bunmei era (1482). During the Edo period, it received special reverence from the Fukuoka Domain and was relocated to its current location in the Nishijin district in the 6th year of the Kanbun era (1666). The shrine moved to its present site in the 2nd year of the Taisho era (1913) and was elevated to the status of a Prefectural Shrine in the 11th year of the Taisho era (1922).
