History

In 1658 CE (Manji 1), Mizutani Katsutaka, the lord of Bichu-Matsuyama Castle, prayed for the success of land reclamation in the Tamashima area and invited the spirit from Haguro Mountain in Dewa Province to establish the shrine. During the Tokugawa period, the shrine received deep devotion from Tamashima merchants, who prospered as a commercial port, and successive lords donated shrine rice. The current main hall (honden) was rebuilt in 1845 CE (Kaei 3), and the worship hall (haiden) was rebuilt in 1852 CE (Ansei 4).

What visitors say

This is a scenic shrine where you can overlook the town of Tamashima. The grounds feature statues of the Seven Lucky Gods, as well as sculptures of an immortal riding a dragon and a turtle, and a white cat. The surrounding area is a preserved district of old streets. The parking lot is located at the top, and since there are steep slopes and stairs, it is also convenient to use the parking lots in the nearby shopping district.
