History
The shrine's origin is said to be a temporary palace (gyōgū) built when Empress Jingū waited for favorable winds at Iki during the Three Han expeditions in the 9th year of Emperor Chūai's reign. In the 1st year of the Yōrō era (717 CE), a shrine building was erected to pray for the protection of the state. Since ancient times, it has been regarded as the second most important shrine in Iki Province.
