In 1599 CE (Keichō 5), the local magistrate Yamada Rokubē invited the Zen master Junyan to relocate the temple to the present site in the village of Nichidō, renaming it Dongsen-ji. It subsequently became the family temple for the Honjo clan, the lords of Takatomi Domain, and now enshrines the memorial tablet of the first domain lord.
