During the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the Meiji era, the six Tōtō (sub-temples) of Shihoshoji were abolished, but this temple, as the Gakutoji, was preserved and renamed Shana-in. Subsequently, with the support of donations, the current main hall underwent major repairs and renovations in 1942.
