A tower head (tato) temple of the Tohoku-ji branch of the Rinzai school located in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto City. History
Founded during the Genkō era (1321–1324 CE), the temple was established by Ichijō Tsunemichi in memory of his father, Ichijō Naikō. The founding abbot was Jōzan Sōzen, a dharma grand-disciple of Enni, the founding abbot of Tohoku-ji. Thereafter, it served as the ancestral temple (bodai-ji) for the Ichijō family, a branch of the Fujiwara family. The temple was restored during the Genroku era (1688–1704 CE) by Ichijō Kaneteru.
