It is said to have been founded in 709 CE (Wadō 2) by Taishō. After passing through the Tendai school, it was converted to the Shingon school during the Heian period by Keiyū. The monk Jūhen, who passed away in 1820 CE (Bunsei 3), was known as an exceptional monk who performed prayers at Daikaku-ji.
