This shrine was established during the reign of Emperor Suinin, the tenth emperor of Japan, and received imperial reverence. In 1129 CE (Daiji 4), it came under the patronage of Takeda Saburo Yoshikiyoshi and was also referred to as Wakamiya Hachiman-gu, serving as a place of prayer for the military success of the Takeda clan.
